GTH continued its long-standing tradition as the lead sponsor for the Symphony Tacoma Orchestra’s opening night celebration

On October 21, 2017, GTH continued its long-standing tradition as the lead sponsor for the Symphony Tacoma Orchestra’s opening night celebration. This celebration featured the amazing music from West Side Story and The Waterfront in honor of the centennial of Leonard Bernstein’s birth. GTH Partner Dianne K. Conway has served on the Symphony’s Board of Directors since 2015 and also chaired this year’s Gala fundraising event, which was the most successful in the Symphony’s history. Dianne’s service on the Board was preceded by Partner John Guadnola, who served an astounding 21 years on the Board (1989-2010) and notes “If Tacoma was going to be a city I wanted to live in, it needed a Symphony."  GTH Partner James Beck also served on the Board from 2010 to 2013.

Youth education is a central focus of the Symphony’s mission. The Symphony’s youth programs include Simply Symphonic, an award-winning program for 5th Grade students; Mini Maestros, featuring a curriculum prepared by Early Childhood Learning experts for children ages 2-8; and the Instrument Petting Zoo, which exposes young children to music through a hands-on experience. The Symphony’s newest youth education program, Symphony2U, sends musicians from the Symphony into under-privileged local high school classrooms to provide weekly coaching sessions to music students.
