Summer Associate Program

A firm is only as good as its attorneys. At Gordon Thomas Honeywell Malanca Peterson & Daheim, LLP, the professional development of tomorrow’s lawyers is a top priority. Our summer associate program is designed to help students bridge the gap between law school and legal practice.

Learning
Summer associates gain invaluable experience working in a variety of fields. Gordon Thomas Honeywell has nine practice groups, and summer associates are encouraged to seek out projects from all of them. Summer associates are expected to complete substantive assignments and work closely with partners and associates who are serving their clients. While research and writing are a big part of a summer associate’s job, summer associates are also invited and encouraged to attend firm meetings, client consultations, depositions, mediations, hearings, and even trials.

Mentors
Each summer associate is paired with two mentors: an associate and a partner. Mentors provide practical guidance, advice, and insights to summer associates as they take their first steps into the legal profession. Mentors not only aim to ensure that their summer associates have successful summers, but successful careers as well. Past summer associates consider their mentors one of the most valuable elements of their experience at Gordon Thomas Honeywell.

Offices
Generally, summer associates will spend the majority of their summer at Gordon Thomas Honeywell’s main office in Tacoma, Washington. All summer associates also participate in a two-week rotation in the firm’s Seattle office. This allows summer associates to meet other attorneys, get a taste of the different kinds of work that goes on within the firm, and get a sense of the different legal communities.

Fun
The Pacific Northwest is a vibrant and beautiful place to live and work. Throughout the summer, Gordon Thomas Honeywell holds numerous social networking events to help summer associates get to know each other, the firm, and the Northwest. Past events have included Mariners’ games, barbeques at partners’ homes, dinner theaters, boating trips, and a firm-wide poker tournament.
