Beck Wins $542,000 Jury Verdict on behalf of U.S. Air Force Reservist
On September 12, 2007, a Seattle federal jury awarded $542,000 to a U.S. Air Force Gulf War veteran represented by James Beck who was fired by Seattle-based Ace Heating because he asserted his employment rights as a reservist. When he returned to his employment after deployment, his hours were cut and given to another employee. After he complained internally and to the Air Force, the company fired the Reservist. “People who dutifully serve our country in the Armed Forces shouldn’t be treated in this manner,” said Beck. “We feel justice has been served in this case, and the verdict will hopefully prevent similar retaliatory actions against future veterans.”
