Cochran and Beck Obtain Substantial Settlement for BCTI Students

Darrell Cochran has successfully settled claims brought by disadvantaged students against BCTI, a technical school that charged students thousands of dollars but provided shoddy schooling. BCTI targeted low-income and financially distressed people who were eligible for student loans and charged them $10,000 to $20,000 in tuition. Instead of a premium education, students found poor classes, substandard materials and high teacher turnover. Cochran, assisted by James Beck, filed claims for fraud, negligence, misrepresentation and violations of the Consumer Protection Act. He recently obtained a large settlement that will help former students meet their loan obligations. The lawsuit also prompted new state legislation that establishes minimum standards for commercial vocational schools and their instructors.
