Jury awards $4.4 Million to Family of Slain Rainier, Washington man represented by James Beck and Darrell Cochran
On July 16, 2008, a Thurston County jury awarded the widow and three children of Scott Keith $4.4 million in a wrongful death claim asserted against Keith's former neighbor. In July 2004 Keith was shot multiple times by his neighbor with whom he had been feuding. The Thurston County Prosecutor's Office refused to bring charges against the neighbor despite multiple requests from the Keith family, claiming that the shooting was done in self defense. The quality of the County's investigation was called into doubt by James Beck and Darrell Cochran who represented the family at trial. Ultimately, a unanimous jury found the County's investigation unpersuasive and that the neighbor did not act in self-defense. See the following link for KING 5 news coverage of the case.
