Jim Waldo Featured in Tacoma News Tribune Lead Article on 20th Anniversary of Puyallup Land Claims Settlement

Jim Waldo is featured in a front-page article in the September 21, 2008 Tacoma News Tribune on the 20th anniversary of the Puyallup Indian Land and Jurisdictional Claims Settlement.  Waldo was the chief negotiator for the non-Indian side of the dispute, representing Pierce County, the Port of Tacoma, the cities of Tacoma, Fife and Puyallup, and private landowners and businesses.  Spanning six years, the negotiations resulted in a comprehensive $162 million settlement package approved and funded by the United States Congress, the Washington State legislature, local governments, and private parties, in exchange for the Puyallup Indian Tribe's agreement to relinquish claims to large expanses of land in the Tacoma area.  The Settlement is regarded as a historical turning point not only for the Puyallup Tribe but also for the Port of Tacoma, Pierce County and the cities of Tacoma and Fife.  To view the article, click here
